AdrianBryan The president Donald Trump administration is considering closing nearly 30 U.S. diplomatic posts, including 10 embassies and 17 consulates, primarily in Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean, as part of a broader effort to reduce the U.S. diplomatic footprint and cut the State Department’s budget by nearly half (from $54.4 billion in FY2025 to $28.4 billion in FY2026). The closures, outlined in internal State Department documents, aim to align with the "America First" policy and are driven by the Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The Proposed Embassies to be closed in Africa include those in: 🇸🇸South Sudan, 🇪🇷Eritrea, 🇱🇸Lesotho, 🇨🇫Central African Republic, 🇨🇩Republic of Congo, 🇬🇲Gambia. Others include Grenada, Luxembourg, Malta, and the Maldives. Consulate closures include five in France (Bordeaux, Lyon, Marseille, Rennes, Strasbourg), two in Germany (Düsseldorf, Leipzig), two in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Mostar, Banja Luka), and others in Cameroon, Indonesia, South Africa, South Korea, Greece, Italy, Portugal, and the UK (Edinburgh). Duties would be transferred to nearby embassies or consolidated into larger regional posts.
