Ronaldo makes history against France
Cristiano Ronaldo became the joint-top scoring men’s international player of all time with his pair of converted penalties in the 2-2 draw with France.
Ronaldo is up to 109 goals in 176 matches for Portugal.
Ronaldo is currently tied with Iran legend Ali Daei, who scored 109 times in 149 matches between 1993 and 2006.
Ronaldo and Daei are far ahead of any other player on the list, as Malaysia hero Mokhtar Dahari, who retired in 1985, is the third top scorer on 89 goals.
Tributes for the Juventus forward poured in on social media amid a performance that also took him to the top of the Euro 2020 scoring leaderboard.
“He’s scored more goals for his country than any of the pundits in our studio (Lampard, Ferdinand, Shearer) have made international appearances,” remarked former England player Gary Lineker on Twitter.
