Apply for Zayed Sustainability Prize 2023

The 2023 cycle of the Zayed Sustainability Prize, the UAE’s innovative international prize honoring organizations and high schools with sustainability solutions, is now accepting nominations.

Through the Prize’s online entry form, entries will be welcomed until July 6, 2022. For eligibility in one of the 5 categories of health, energy, food, water, and global high schools, small to medium businesses, non-profit organizations, and high schools with sustainable solutions are encouraged to submit an entry.

Record-breaking 4,000 entries from a record 151 nations were submitted for the Prize’s 2022 award cycle, which represents a huge 68.5 percent increase over the previous cycle.

“For the past 14 years, the Prize has proudly accomplished its goal of recognizing and encouraging the accomplishments of those who are leading innovative, impactful, and inspiring sustainability solutions,” said H.E. Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Director General of the Zayed Sustainability Prize, in a statement about the beginning of the 2023 submissions cycle.

Young people continue to be a key emphasis for the Prize, and H.E. Al Jaber remarked, “We are devoted to helping even more future sustainability leaders by giving them a platform to transform their innovative ideas into reality via our Global High Schools category.”

Each category’s winners receive US$600,000 from the Prize’s US$3 million annual fund. Six world area winners make up the Global High Schools category, and each school is eligible to receive up to $100,000 to launch or advance its initiative.

Europe & Central Asia, The Americas, Middle East & North Africa, South Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and East Asia & Pacific are the six world regions included in the Global High Schools category.

The Prize has, to date, recognized 96 recipients whose initiatives or student-led school projects have significantly altered the lives of millions positively. It was influenced by the reliability and humanitarian legacy of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE’s founding father.

Although the submission formats differ for each category, the main components of each contribution are the creative, significant, and inspirational ways that the suggested applications, technology, and solutions aim to improve people’s lives.

Organizations should be able to show that they are increasing access to necessary goods or services and have a long-term goal for better living and working conditions for the sectors of food, health, water and energy.

Their programs should be student–led for the Global High Schools category, with a focus on the youngsters being actively engaged in the planning, execution, and monitoring processes.

The Zayed Sustainability Prize review process consists of three stages, the first of which is the independent research and analytical consultancy’s due diligence. This allows for the identification of qualified entries and the selection of qualified candidates.
