Lionel Messi became the first South American player to score 80 international goals after netting in Argentina’s 3-0 win against Uruguay on Sunday.Messi has set unprecedented standards of excellence since making his international debut for Argentina back in 2005, becoming his country’s all-time record scorer in the process.
The 34-year-old even broke Brazil legend Pele’s South American scoring record of 77 when netting a hat-trick in a World Cup qualifying win over Bolivia at the start of September, and has reached a new mark after adding to his tally against Uruguay.
